As a child, Christy was terrified of thunderstorms. This led her to frequently watch the news and weather coverage. Her fear turned into a fascination with weather, which helped her understand weather patterns in her hometown of Butler, Pa.

Christy pursued her passion at The Pennsylvania State University, where she earned her B.S. in Meteorology. While at Penn State, she was an active member of the Campus Weather Service, which is the largest student-run weather service in the U.S. She also worked as a meteorologist for CNET on the show “Weather or Not.”

Before working at WTAJ, she was in Hagerstown, MD at HMTV6 as the morning meteorologist. She then moved back into Central Pennsylvania to become a meteorologist here at WTAJ. Christy is now one of the few meteorologists in Central Pennsylvania to have earned the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society which is a high honor within the field.

Christy loves being a part of the community here in Central Pennsylvania and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Centre County and also participates each year in the Laurel Highlands HeartChase Race that benefits the American Heart Association. She is always looking for opportunities to give back to her community. She also loves being able to go on classroom visits to promote STEM and help kids understand science and weather. When Christy is not forecasting the weather, you can find her attempting to garden. She also enjoys taking photos of nature, especially flowers. In the fall, you can find her on Saturdays cheering on the Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium.

If you have cool weather or flower photos you can interact with her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram @WxShield
