Centre County leaders say they want to find out what under-utilized resources are outside of State College. 

County commissioners and Penn State Extension have teamed up to complete a feasibility study to monitor some of the economic trends and the potential that some of the under-utilized areas of Centre County hold. 

“Most of the activity in the county is within the Centre region or in that neighborhood, but there’s also a lot of interesting economic activity perspectives and priorities in the other planning regions within the county,” Walt Whitmer, a senior extension associate said. 

Commissioners and PSU Extension have been in contact with seven planning regions to develop a plan that supports growth in a reasonable way. 

Whitmer said the areas of interest include agriculture, recreation, and tourism. 

Both Perry and Cumberland counties have already completed similar studies. 

A final version is expected to be released in August after regional meetings are held over the summer.
