A Clearfield County home is destroyed after a fire Wednesday afternoon.

Crews were called out to Town Road in New Washington Borough before 1 o clock.

When they got there, Mahaffey Volunteer Fire Department deputy chief Josh Bush said they found the home engulfed in flames.

The one person who was there at the time made it out safely, but the home was a total loss.

Bush said today’s bitter cold temperatures made fighting the fire a real challenge.

“The temperatures not only affect the manpower trying to stay warm while fighting the fire, but also the hose lines freeze up instantly,” Bush said.

The state police fire marshal is now investigating the cause of the fire.
