SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ)– A court order from Sept. 27 asked the Attorney General’s Office to take over the prosecution of Amy Thomas, wife of Somerset District Attorney (DA), Jeffrey Thomas.
Amy Thomas was arrested by Windber Police on a misdemeanor simple assault charge after a domestic dispute Sept. 12 in which the DA was the alleged victim.
The Attorney General’s Office agreed to take over the prosecution of Amy Thomas but a court will have to decide the merits of the change in prosecutor.
Jeffrey Thomas, 36, is also facing charges after a Sept. 18 incident at a residence in Windber Borough where he is accused of physically and sexually assaulted a woman, according to state police.
President Judge D. Gregory Geary is asking the state Supreme Court to appoint a judge to decide who will prosecute Thomas’s wife, Amy Thomas
Both Jeffrey and Amy Thomas remain free on bail in their respective cases with preliminary hearings scheduled for Oct. 13.
