How safe is the food in your kitchen?
The Environmental Working Group released its “dirty dozen” list of fruits and vegetables.
Strawberries came in first — meaning they’re the most tainted with pesticide residue.
Spinach and Kale are in second and third place.
The popular health food *kale* is ranked on the environmental working group’s annual list of the most pesticide- heavy produce.
The health advocacy group says tests showed more than 92 percent of kale samples contained two or more pesticides, even *after* being washed. The contaminants include a possible human carcinogen.
other “dirty” foods include cherries and nectarines. The top “clean” foods are avocados, sweet corn and pineapples. Researchers say consuming pesticides have been linked to health issues like cancer and fertility concerns.
the organization advises people to eat organic produce.
