This weekend the largest philatelic library begins as it prepares for a grand opening in a newly-renovated space.

The American Philatelic Research Library in Bellefonte is the world’s largest, with more than 80,000 volumes in a 19,000-square foot space.

And it’s home to unique treasures of the world, such as the ‘Inverted Jenny,’ the first stamp in the world.

Philatelic libraries are the place to go for stamp collectors.

“One of the things I like are the files we have of some stamp designs of the U-S Stamps,” Ken Martin, chief operating officer said.

The celebration kicks off Friday, with a keynote speaker and a celebratory dinner.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held the following Saturday.
